It’s Cinnamon Day

It’s the first of the month and witches everywhere will be blowing cinnamon through their front door, but why do this? Cinnamon has long been associated with abundance and prosperity, and the process of blowing cinnamon powder through the main entrance to your home (this does not need to be the front door if you rarely use it) symbolises you inviting abundance and prosperity into your home.

In my current home, I tie this in with other rituals on both the first of the month and the new moon depending on when in the month that falls. Not only does this amplify the cinnamon ritual, but helps me focus my energy and intentions for the coming month/moon cycle. But there is no right time to do this, it can be done at a time to suit you or simply just when you remember.

The commonly observed way to carry out the cinnamon ritual is simple:

  • Stand outside your main entrance with the cinnamon in your preferred hand.
  • Speak your intention into the cinnamon, something along the lines on ‘As this cinnamon enters my home, prosperity and abundance will follow’.
  • Leave the cinnamon in your entrance for at least 24 hours before sweeping up.

As stated above, I’m a bit extra, so I have my own embellishments. This is what I do:

  • Sweep my front step and clean the door with a protection & cleansing wash.
  • Physically clean the entrance hallway before lighting a cleansing candle.
  • Place a protection bay leaf under the door mat.
  • Blow cinnamon through the door with my own personal intentions.
  • Hang a selenite and cinnamon bundle on the inside of the door.

Not everyone is able to blow cinnamon through their front door and that’s absolutely fine; there are other things you can do. Here are a few ideas:

  • You can discretely place a cinnamon stick at your entrance.
  • You can add cinnamon to a herbal bath/shower pouch.
  • Add cinnamon to your drink.
  • Bake with cinnamon – you can add your intentions as you mix and then reinforce them as you eat!

Let me know how you have used cinnamon today.

Blessed be.
