New Moon, New Magic: A Fresh Start for The Unsuspecting Witch
The moon is dark, but my heart is full.
As the new moon graces the sky, it brings an invitation for renewal and quiet intention-setting. After a season of stillness, I’m returning to The Unsuspecting Witch with fresh energy and a heart full of ideas.
Let’s embrace this lunar phase together — planting seeds for the magic we wish to grow.
A Quiet Return
Life has been full behind the scenes. My health has been delicate, and personal challenges have asked me to retreat and rest. But as the wheel of the year turns, I find myself arriving once more at a place of readiness — called to rekindle this blog.
This space is not only for sharing insights and rituals; it’s also a place of refuge and expression for me. A way to transmute experience into something meaningful, and even magical.
Why the New Moon Matters
The new moon — with its deep, dark sky — has long been a symbol of beginnings, reflection, and shadow work. Across cultures, it marks a potent time for inward focus:
- In Hindu tradition, Amavasya is a sacred day for honouring ancestors and spiritual practices.
 - In Chinese culture, the new moon initiates the lunar month, with rituals for good fortune and protection.

These diverse traditions echo a shared human impulse: to pause, release the past, and start anew.
Gentle Magic: The Simmer Pot Spell
My favourite new moon ritual is a simply enchanting simmer pot. It’s a spell you can perform with minimal energy, but maximum impact — ideal for those of us navigating chronic illness or energy sensitivity.
Magic doesn’t have to be loud to be powerful.
You can create it on a stovetop or in a wax melt bowl, making it perfect for any space or energy level.
New Moon Simmer Pot
Purpose: To cleanse, purify, and welcome love, healing, and luck.
Ingredients:
- Lemon slices – cleansing and clarity
 - Himalayan salt – purification, removing negativity
 - Apple slices – love and healing
 - Orange slices – abundance and luck
 - Rosemary – spiritual protection and renewal
 - Lavender – peace and harmony
 - Nettle – warding off harm and banishment
 - Cinnamon – protection and magical potency
 - Star anise – luck and energetic clarity
 - Thyme – grounding and home blessing

How to Use:
- Fill a pot with water and bring to a low simmer.
 - Add each ingredient one at a time, focusing your intention with each.
 - Stir clockwise, reciting something simple like:
“Cast out what no longer serves. Let love, peace, and luck fill this space.” - Allow the aroma to gently fill your space.
 - Open a window or door — let old energy drift away.

Simmer Pot Hack: For larger spaces, decant some into a heatproof bowl and carry it through your home.
Intention Setting Candle Ritual
After cleansing the space, I like to gently anchor my goals with a candle-based intention ritual. It’s quiet, grounding, and wonderfully adaptable.
You’ll need:
- A white or silver candle
 - A small piece of paper
 - A pen
 - A peaceful moment

Steps:
- Light your candle and settle your body.
 - Reflect: What do you truly wish to grow in this lunar cycle?
 - Write down your intentions clearly.
 - Read them aloud — feel them in your heart.
 - Fold the paper and place it beneath the candle.
 - Sit in stillness, visualising your desires manifesting.
 - Let the candle burn safely, even briefly.

Candle Hack: Keep a designated “New Moon Candle” and reuse it each cycle. Remember, the magic lives in your intention — not just the flame.
Looking Ahead: Gentle, Glamorous Witchcraft
With a rekindled flame for this blog, I have many low-energy, high-magic topics planned:
- Seasonal rituals
 - Everyday glamour magic
 - Accessible, sensory witchcraft for spoonies
 - Nature-based skincare spells
 - Ways to weave your practice into daily life

Let’s step into this next phase with soft power and deep intention. I invite you to walk this moonlit path with me.
This lunar cycle, I’m planting seeds of slow, sustainable creativity. What magic are you calling in?
